Qi-Gong
"Yoga in Motion"
Harbor-Topky Memorial Library
Qi-Gong has its roots in the dawn of the Chinese civilization and tradition has it that it is patterned after the movements of animals. Qi is energy and the exercise to produce Qi is called: Gong.
Qi-Gong exercises are gentle and flowing. No special clothing or equipment is needed, just loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes. The slow, gentle movements make it easy for people of all ages, fitness levels, and experience levels to participate. These simple exercises are enjoyable and can keep the body youthful throughout life by keeping the body flexible, relaxed and energized. Continuing practice is used to eliminate stress and give a positive upbeat to the spirit.
Qi-Gong vs Tai-Chi
Qi-Gong has been called "yoga in motion" since its movements are similar and done one at a time. To learn a typical Tai-Chi form usually takes a few months. Qi-Gong is much simpler and can be learned very quickly. Qi-Gong is considered by many to be the mother of Tai-Chi because it's over 3,000 years old while Tai-Chi is about 800 years old.
Qi-Gong's slow-flowing movements focus on internal energy. Stretching circulates energy; flowing movements cultivate energy and bring it into the body.
Tuesday Mornings starting 01/13 @ 10 a.m.
